An Exploration Into AstroBotany

Have you ever wondered if plants can grow in outer space? Then you won't want to miss this event with Richard Barker, a UW-Madison researcher investigating plant responses to spaceflight.

Barker is a Co-Investigator on three NASA grants and has been involved in the planning and launch of multiple AstroBotany experiments to the International Space Station (ISS). As part of the GeneLab project with NASA, he built the TOAST (Test of Arabidopsis Space Transcriptome) database to support the goal of democratizing space life science research. Now he turns his attention to using the journey to Mars to inspire students with tales of AstroBotany - the science involved with making plants grow in outer space.

Join NASA-affiliated researcher Richard Barker for an exploration of his AstroBotany experiments with the International Space Station. Presented in partnership with the Mead Public Library Foundation, this Academy Talk is free and open to the public with advance online registration. Arrive early and join us for a 6:00 pm reception.

Register in advance to secure your seat. Unregistered seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
