Recent scientific advances such as CRISPr genome editing offer tantalizing solutions to disability and disease. But what are the political, societal, and ethical implications of cheap and easy genetic manipulation?

For his talk, Molecular Me: Exploring the Implications of the Genomics Revolution, Jason Fletcher, the Director of the Center for Demography on Health and Aging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discusses some of the recent major advances in genomics and how statistical methods applied to “big data” in human genetics, often through private companies, offer new avenues for targeted healthcare intervention as well as patient discrimination.

Presented in partnership with the Mead Public Library Foundation and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. Space is limited.  Register through this link. Unregistered seats are available on a first-come, first served basis.  (A reception will be held for Jason Fletcher in the library Loft, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Come to meet Jason!)
