Racial Justice Book Discussion Series

Racial Justice Book Discussion Series will meet online; Zoom links will be sent out the day of the event, so make sure to register if you would like to attend. Here's the line-up:

February 9th: Evicted by Matthew Desmond
March 9th: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
April 13th: The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein
May 11th: Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
June 8th: How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi

A limited quanity of book club books are set aside for participants and are available one month in advance of the meeting date; stop by the first floor Circulation Desk to pick up your copy or schedule curbside pick up. If book club books run out, participants can request copies from other Monarch libraries or check out e-books and e-audiobooks through Libby.

Book discussion sessions will be lead by Attorney Natasha Torry. Torry has been practicing law for the past 20 years in government, private practice and nonprofit sectors. She has served as judge for the Sheboygan Area Municipal Court since 2015. Torry also currently represents the interests of low income clients in the areas of unemployment and housing at Legal Action of Wisconsin. She is an active member of the Sheboygan DEIB group, the Sheboygan Service Club, Diversity Coordinator of the Family Law Board for the State Bar of Wisconsin. 

Racial Justice Book Discussion Series is hosted by Mead Public Library and the Sheboygan Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Initiative (SDEIBI): a diverse group of community activists committed to an equitable and inclusive Sheboygan. This group was formed in 2019 to discuss and address Diversity, Equity,Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) in Sheboygan. The members represent communities and school districts throughout Sheboygan County along with a variety of backgrounds and affiliations.
