Read. Talk. Make.
Open to Teens and Adults
The Book to Art Club combines reading, discussion, and art-making.
Participants will read the selected book, then create projects inspired by the reading during the discussion to further engage with the literature. The process of making is more important than the final product!
Book club book copies may be picked up at Mead Public Library's 1st floor desk one month before the discussion. Art supplies will be provided, but participants may bring their own materials. Follow us on Goodreads, Pinterest!, and Facebook. See what is happening with other Book to Art Clubs around the world on The Book to Art Club Blog. Mead discussion groups are free, funded by the Friends of the Library. The Book to Art Club was created by the Library as Incubator Project.
"Bad Monkeys" by Matt Ruff
Theme: Rorschach
Jane Charlotte has been arrested for murder.
She tells police that she is a member of a secret organization devoted to fighting evil; her division is called the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons—"Bad Monkeys" for short.
This confession earns Jane a trip to the jail's psychiatric wing, where a doctor attempts to determine whether she is lying, crazy—or playing a different game altogether. What follows is one of the most clever and gripping novels you'll ever read.
